Functional units of a Computer

Computer is a device that depends upon and operates the data or information. It can accept the input data, stores the data, process on it and output desired results.

There are three main functional units of a computer.

1^st. Input Unit/Input Device

The device by which we provide information or instructions to the computer are called input devices. Input devices are keyboard, mouse etc.

2^nd. Central Processing Unit

Central processing unit is simply called CPU. It is that unit which processes the input data.

3^rd. Output Unit/ Output Device

The device which is used to get output data from computer is called output device. The examples are monitor, loud speaker etc.

Hardware

All the physical components/parts of computer are called hardware OR those parts of computer which can be touch are said hardware, such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU etc.

Software

The collection of programs is called software OR those parts of computer which we cannot touch are called software OR software is referred to as the collection of computer instructions that tell the computer how to work.

The software is classified into two parts.
